What does it mean?
Der Auftritt usually means “appearance”, “performance” or “stage entrance”, depending on the context.
It comes from the verb auftreten, which literally means “to step up” or “to appear”. It can mean performing on stage, appearing in public, behaving in a certain way, or even “occurring” when talking about problems or symptoms.
It can also describe the impression someone makes. If someone has a confident Auftritt, they come across well. If their Auftritt is awkward, chaotic or overly dramatic, people may comment on that too.
For example, Sie tritt heute Abend auf means “She is performing tonight”. But Er tritt sehr selbstbewusst auf means “He comes across as very confident”.
The noun is masculine: der Auftritt. The plural is die Auftritte.
