The Hannoverhaus, which is located at an elevation of 2,565 meters in the Ankogel group of the Hohe Tauern mountain range in Carinthia, could be your new home.
That's right – the mountain hut, which provides modern accommodation for hikers and skiers, needs new operators for upcoming seasons.
And what makes this hut so special? That would be the fabulous location and views. The Hannoverhaus is situated in the heart of the Ankogel ski area near Mallnitz in Carinthia, just a few steps from the top station of the Ankogel cable car. In summer, the mountain hut serves as an important base on the Tauernhöhenweg trail in the Hohe Tauern National Park
While the immediate surroundings feature dramatic high-alpine peaks like the Ankogel and Hochalmspitze, exceptional visibility on clear days allows for a sweeping distant view southward toward the Dolomites on the horizon.

Tell me more about the mountain hut...
Whoever takes over the lease will be in charge of an exciting workplace. The hut has 14 twin and shared rooms, a dining room with a tiled stove, a seminar room plus a sun terrace.
The current building, which is owned by the German Alpine Club (DAV), was newly constructed in 2012 and 2013.
Despite its high altitude, the Hannoverhaus is relatively easy to reach. Visitors can travel by train to Mallnitz, then take the bus to the valley station and continue upwards on the Ankogelbahn cable car.
Supplies for the hut are also delivered via the cable car. Electricity, a solar panel system and mains drainage are in place, while water is sourced from the hut’s own spring.
In summer, the area attracts walkers, including those on the Tauernhöhenweg and on hikes around the Kleiner and Großer Ankogel. In winter, the mountain hut is situated right in the heart of the skiing area.
According to the job advertisement, the regular summer season runs from around mid-June to mid-September and may last until the end of October, depending on the weather. In winter, the hut is scheduled to open from late December to mid-April.

What the new hut managers need to bring to the role
Of course, a love of the mountains and Austrian nature is not enough to land the position.
The DAV said future operators should have catering expertise and – ideally – experience in running a mountain hut. An entrepreneurial mindset, the ability to cope with stress and awareness of the climate and environment are also desired.

Candidates should also have good communication skills to deal with guests, an interest in social media and have the mountain associations's best interests at heart.
Anyone interested in applying has until the end of September. Applicants should submit a CV and cover letter with relevant supporting documents.
