The US online retail giant may be planning a €500 million project in Reichersberg, in the Innviertel region near the Bavarian border, the Oberösterreichischen Nachrichten rerported.
If the plans go ahead, the site would be one of Amazon’s biggest reported investments in Austria in recent years and could further expand the company’s presence in the country.
What do we know?
A new facility was planned in Reichersberg, close to the German border. The project was described as a site with highly automated workplaces for research and development.
The location appears to be one of the main reasons the site is being discussed.

According to the report, Reichersberg is close to the A8 Innkreis motorway, with access via the Ort im Innkreis junction. Its proximity to Germany was also described as attractive to logistics companies and manufacturing businesses.
The region already hosts industrial activity. It's where aviation supplier FACC runs two of its six production plants in Upper Austria in Reichersberg.
The clearest public comment so far appears to have come from the local business park company.
Wirtschaftspark Reichersberg GmbH as saying that it could confirm negotiations with a major player and that those talks were still at an early stage, according to Austrian media. The company didn't comment on the names of firms being mentioned publicly.
Amazon in Austria
Amazon has so far mainly operated distribution centres in Austria. It also has a research and development centre in Graz, where it works together with the Technical University. Amazon has had its own sites and employees in Austria since 2016.
If the Reichersberg project goes ahead, it would reportedly become the company’s eighth site in Austria.
