Many foreigners move to Austria for work opportunities. Whether in marketing, diplomacy, science and research, industry, education or culture, the country offers a wide range of employers, from small firms to major corporations.
But how do jobseekers know which companies truly are good places to work?
One way is to check out employee feedback. Kununu, which is a well-known employer review and comparison platform in the DACH region, recently compiled a ranking of Austria's 300 "best" employers to work for. The list was put together in cooperation with business magazine Trend and market research institute Statista.
Below is a closer look at the top three companies, based on employee ratings, staff feedback and salary data. Further down, you’ll find the wider list of the top 15 employers.
First place: Linz AG
With a score of 8.53 out of 10, Linz AG tops the ranking and can claim the title of "Austria’s Best Employer 2026".
The company is responsible for energy supply, public transportation and all municipal services in the Upper Austrian capital of Linz, as well as 115 other municipalities in the surrounding area.
Ranked 15th last year, now at number one – Linz AG owes this to its nearly 3,500 employees. They give their employer high ratings, particularly in the categories of working conditions and diversity.
Seventy-two percent of employees are satisfied with their salary. So how much can you actually earn at the company? The average salary ranges from €33,900 gross for a lifeguard to €111,800 for a department head.
Here's what one reviewer had to say about Linz AG: "Great training, great colleagues, a fantastic work environment, and so much more."

Second place: Austro Control
The Vienna-based aviation and air traffic control company, Austro Control, snagged the second-spot in the ranking with a score of 8.28.
The firm is responsible for ensuring punctual and safe air traffic in Austria. Air traffic controllers typically monitor more than one million flight movements and up to 4,000 aircraft daily.
The company’s responsibilities also include the aviation weather service and issuing pilot licenses.
The employer receives a very good rating in categories such as salary/benefits and interesting tasks. In fact, an impressive 80 percent of employees say they are satisfied with their salary. According to recent data, the average salary at Austro Control ranges from €62,900 before tax for a clerical worker to €112,800 for an air traffic controller.
"When comparing skills and the salary paid for them with the rest of the job market, Austro Control pays very well in my opinion," said one staff member in a review.

Alongside media ventures such as Red Bull TV, the company has built a global sports portfolio – including ownership of football clubs like FC Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, as well as teams in the United States and Brazil.
Employees in Austria rate working conditions at this firm particularly highly, along with the company’s image and its treatment of older colleagues.
Corporate culture is also seen as a strong point. According to Kununu data, salaries range from around €36,100 for reception roles to €96,300 for communications managers.
