More flights and better connections from Vienna
Austrian Airlines hasn't (so far) launched any new routes from Vienna for its autumn-winter season, which starts on October 26th, but it is planning to bump up flight frequency to a number of destinations.
On its long-haul agenda, it's bringing back twice-daily flights to Thai capital Bangkok because of popular demand last winter.
It's also maintaining the number of flights for its consistently popular destinations, like New York, Montreal, and the Maldives. There are up to 11 weekly flights to New York, five to the Maldives and three to Mauritius.
And if you're after a slice of la dolce vita, you'll be able to get to Rome more often soon as the carrier is ramping up the number of flights to the capital to up to three times a day (18 a week).
The airline has also switched up its Milan destination airport. From October, it will fly to Milan Linate instead of Milan Malpensa, which is good news for travellers as it's closer to the city centre.
And, come the winter holidays, keen skiers will also benefit from the return of Austrian Airlines' direct connections to Finnish Lapland (Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo)
Extra flights for the October half-term holidays
In anticipation of increased demand, the carrier is also adding 85 extra flights for Austria's half-term holidays (October 27th – November 1st).
With people generally choosing an escape from dreary autumn weather at this time of year, the focus here is on sun-filled destinations, so it's boosted its schedule with 18 flights to Larnaca in Cyprus, seven to Mallorca in Spain, seven to Varna in Bulgaria, plus additional flights to Dubrovnik and Split in Croatia, Catania in Sicily and Valencia in Spain.
Get to Amsterdam from Innsbruck
Austrian Airlines will also be adding Amsterdam to its routes flying out of Innsbruck this winter, with flights starting on 20th December. This will complement existing connections to Brussels, Warsaw, and Copenhagen – these start up again on 20th, 6th and 20th December, respectively.
Partnership expansion for eastern Europe flights
Plus, the airline has expanded its partnership with Air Canada to include three additional routes via Vienna – Belgrade in Serbia, Bucharest in Romania and Pristina in Kosovo.
These are flights operated by Austrian Airlines but sold by Air Canada as part of a so-called codeshare partnership.
Direct flights to London from Graz
Meanwhile, travellers in southern Austria will soon be able to fly directly to London, with Graz Airport's new connection launching this November.
British Airways' subsidiary, BA Euroflyer, will operate the new route, offering three direct flights per week between Graz and London Gatwick Airport.
Starting in November, the Graz-London Gatwick flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
