British people who moved to Austria after January 1st 2021 will be considered third country nationals and have six months from their date of arrival to exchange their licence.

The rule also applies to anyone with a British driving licence resident in Austria. If they moved to Austria before Brexit they should also exchange it by June 30th, 2021.

If you live in Austria for some of the year, but are not legally resident in Austria, you can still use your British licence, and should not need an International Driving Licence (IDL) to drive in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein if you have a photocard driving licence issued in the UK.
