The 42-year-old man surmised that the money may be connected to criminal activities, and promptly informed the police.

Graz police have confirmed that the money is genuine, but declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.

According to Austrian law, somebody who finds lost items is entitled to a "finder's fee" from its owner. The man would be entitled to ten percent of the money up to €2,000, and another five percent of the money beyond that amount.
