At around 8:40 am in the Braunschweiggasse station, two U4 trains collided at an approximate speed of 5 km/h.

According to Wiener Linien spokesman Daniel Amman, the cause of the accident is unclear at this time.

There were no reports of injuries, although the journeys of tens of thousands of passengers were disrupted or delayed.

As a result of precautions after the incident, trains travelled at very low speed, leading to a journey from Hietzing to Heiligenstadt taking around an hour.
