A cold front will move in from Bavaria in Germany, across the east of Austria. Snow is forecast in Styria, Burgenland, Lower Austria and even in the capital Vienna.

On Friday the snow line will be between 500 and 900 metres. There is a warning of heavy snow for Vorarlberg and mountainous areas in Tyrol. There will be gale force winds in east Tyrol, Carinthia, and Lungau in the state of Salzburg.

On Saturday temperatures will fall, with highs between 0C and 6C. Rain in the east will turn to snow, with between five and 15 cm of snow forecast for Vienna’s outer districts on Saturday morning. Even the city’s first district could see some snow, with temperatures staying at around 1C. The Wienerwald is forecast to have up to 20 cm of fresh snow.

Sunday is forecast to be mainly dry with sunshine across most of Austria. It will stay cold in the east with maximum temperatures of around 4C.
