A blind-drunk Romanian man caused a commotion in the departure hall at Graz airport on Wednesday afternoon, threatening to shoot himself with a police officer's gun.

He screamed at and insulted airport cleaning staff and refused to calm down and behave himself when asked to by security officials.

He then demanded a police officer hand over his service weapon so that he could shoot himself with it.

The police officer refused and arrested the man - who was later taken to hospital in Graz on a doctor's recommendation.

Police said that no one was injured and they are investigating what the man was doing at the airport and why he was so drunk.
