While other fire services battled flooding and storms in Austria, this fire crew in Graz was called out to a more unusual emergency.

The mother of three-year-old Artur was forced to call out emergency services after he put a child-sized toilet seat on his head while playing a game and then couldn’t get it off again.

It took three firemen to work out how to separate the boy from the toilet seat, which was firmly lodged on top of Artur’s head.

It took three strong firemen and a pair of pliers to finally free the five-year-old and hand him back minus the toilet seat to his relieved mother.

As a reward for his bravery, Artur was allowed to sit inside the fire engine and was even given a stuffed toy by firemen as a parting gift.

Three hour cat rescue

It’s not the only unusual call out Graz fire services have been on in recent weeks.

At the end of June, a cat owner called out firemen after hearing her pet cat Minki meowing from inside a pipe it had crawled into a few weeks ago.

It took a group of firemen over three hours to rescue the cat that had got stuck fast in the piece of piping.

With the help of a small camera, the fire crew found where the cat was stuck and dug up the pipe, eventually freeing the animal.

“We were happy that this emergency call ended well,” fireman Philipp Goldner said.
