The 35-year-old had attacked the young woman early in the morning as she waited at a bus stop in the Austrian city of Linz.
But he had not expected that she would fight back so hard, including punching him in the face and breaking his nose.
He had continued to attack her until she fell to the ground unconscious and is unclear what happened then, but when he was disturbed by a passer-by he ran off, leaving the half-naked young woman lying on the ground.
The passer-by raised the alarm with police saying that they had spotted a man running off and the young woman unconscious and partially hidden in the bushes.
Because he was in so much pain from the broken nose, the man had then gone to the hospital to get treatment.
He was arrested there by police who declined to give any more information about the incident. The man is being held in investigative custody, according to prosecution spokesman Philip Christl.
