The 54-year-old driver is accused of assaulting a 29-year-old woman after picking her up from the U4 club in Meidling at 4.15am on January 30th.

It is thought that when she fell asleep in the back of the car, he secretly drove her to Langenzersdorf where he stopped the car and assaulted her.

The woman managed to escape and, with the help of the radio control centre and GPS, police were able to identify the driver by tracking the taxi's movements on the night of the attack.

They arrested the driver in his apartment in Vienna on March 1st. The man partially confessed to the crime, although he claims the woman consented to the sexual acts,

Believing this was not his first attack, the police then took the rare step of releasing a photo of the driver at the weekend in the hope that further victims would come forward. However, the police have not released the man's name.

Two other woman have since contacted the police and said they too were sexually attacked by him.

“Colleagues are now investigating whether they are really victims of this driver,” police spokesman Patrick Maierhofer said.

Any other people who believe they could be a victim of the driver are asked to contact the Vienna police on 01/ 31310-33210.
