The 79-year-old man who lived in the posh 19th district of Vienna had met the 42-year-old at his golf club where she was working as a waitress. He had been left single after his wife of 40 years had died.
The two became friends and he later helped her out financially to escape from an abusive marriage and at the same time they became lovers.
The man, identified only as Karl H. for legal reasons, said that he had then sold his company and had finally accepted the suggestion of lover Susi, 42, that they get married.
The court heard that she had then taken control of his household, enjoying her new lifestyle by getting a new Mercedes E200 Coupe, new breasts and her teeth repaired.
She had also thrown out his long-term housekeeper and allegedly plied him with alcohol in order to get access to his bank accounts including more than 140 savings accounts.
She then suggested they go on a romantic holiday together, staying at a luxury resort in Croatia, but once there she sneaked out of the hotel, went back to Austria and cashed in everything he had.
It included gold bars which he had hidden at home, and took 2.5 million EUR (1.94 million GBP) from the safe.
When he returned home, he found he was penniless, and even worse, he now faces a million-EUR tax bill for the income he received from the sale of his business.
She claims that everything was a generous gift from her husband, he claims it was a planned fraud.
