31 drug arrests in Vienna weekend raids
Police carried out raids across Vienna and at several underground train stations over the weekend in an effort to clamp down on drug dealers.
100 officers were deployed in the raids which began on Friday morning and ended 24 hours later. 31 people were arrested.
The areas targeted were around the Westbahnhof train station, the Margaretengürtel U4 station, Thaliastrasse (U6), the area around Praterstern, Dresdner Strasse (U6), Lerchenfeldergürtel, Klosterneuburger Strasse, Schottenring and Augartenbrücke.
Police said many of the arrests were made in the Praterstern area, which is a known meeting place for drug addicts and alcoholics. One 18-year-old dealer who tried to escape arrest was pursued and stopped in Stadtgutgasse.
