A hunter in Molln, Upper Austria, was struck by a lightning bolt early on Sunday morning and killed.

The 60-year-old had spent the night at the edge of a forest clearing but got caught in a violent thunderstorm and was hit by lightning after a bolt struck a tall tree next to where he was sitting - and then hit him.

The force of static electricity left him with fatal injuries. His body was discovered later on Sunday by fellow hunters after he failed to return home.

It is recommended not to shelter beside tall or isolated trees during a thunderstorm.
