Heatwave forecast for weekend
The slightly cooler temperatures of the past few days are to be short lived - with another heatwave on the horizon for the weekend.
On Wednesday temperatures are forecast to climb to 32C, to 34C on Thursday and the weekend looks set to be a scorcher with 38C and 39C.
After the weekend things will cool down a bit, with highs of 32C on Monday. Storms are forecast for Sunday evening, from Vorarlberg through to Tyrol and Salzburg and also in parts of Upper Austria. Be prepared for high winds, heavy rain and even hail in the south and south-east of Austria.
Weather forecasters UBIMET said that so far temperatures in July have been similar to those for the same month in 2006 - which were the warmest since records began.
Clemens Teutsch-Zumtobel, from UBIMET, said that in spite of the thunderstorms Austria is currently experiencing a drought and the risk of forest fires remains high.
