A 23-year-old man from Burgenland had a great idea to raise a little money on Saturday night, by impersonating a police officer.

He improvised a blue flashlight, and stopped several foreign cars on the southern highway to collect fake traffic fines.

According to police, the 'undercover cop' from the district of Oberwart wasn't terribly effective, collecting only €120 from hapless drivers.

Some of the victims soon noticed that the flashlight the perpetrator was using consisted of a regular flashlight with a blue plastic cover, and that the 23-year-old man was tipsy.

The victim noted the number plate of the fake cop, and called the real police, who traced it as belonging to the father of the young criminal.

Real police quickly turned up, and arrested the man, who was found to have a 'significant blood alcohol level.'
