In spring 2014, a 25-year-old man from Vienna along with two 27-year-old men from Upper and Lower Austria rented a house in Bramburg, and allegedly set it up as a cannabis growing facility, according to the Austrian Press Agency.

After a short time, they appeared to have second thoughts about the security of the location they had chosen due to nearby neighbours, and relocated to an isolated holiday home cottage in Maria Alm.

Together with a specialist from Vienna, the men set up automated irrigation and lighting systems, and began to grow their crops.

On September 18, 2014, a prosecutor ordered a search warrant at the apartment. The investigators discovered 10.5 kilograms of marijuana of "very good quality", as well as growing equipment with a value of €15,000. The street value of the drugs was estimated by police to be about €100,000.

The men who were arrested have been transferred to prison in Salzburg to await trial.
