Police in Vienna have arrested a man found with numerous marijuana plants drying on clothes racks in his apartment in the Kaisermühlen neighbourhood.

A total of five kg of the drug, some of it stored in plastic rubbish sacks, was confiscated by police on Tuesday.

A 32-year-old man was charged with possession and dealing cannabis. He admitted to growing the plants for the past two years, not only for himself but also in order to sell to others. He said he had grown a total of 1,200 plants and harvested a total of 17 kg.

Neighbours of the man, who lives in Schüttaustraße, alerted police after they became aware of an intense marijuana smell. A police dog reacted immediately outside the man’s door.
