A luxury racing car, a McLaren Spider 650, crashed on the S6 road to Semmering in Lower Austria over the weekend and will have to be scrapped.

One person was taken to hospital but it’s not clear how seriously he or she was injured or if anyone else was travelling in the car.

The 650 horsepower supercar was travelling in the direction of Wiener Neustadt when the driver apparently lost control on wet roads, and crashed head-on into a guardrail.

A crane was used to lift the wrecked vehicle off the motorway. The road had to be closed for a short amount of time.

The McLaren Spider 650 is worth around US$265,000 (€206,000).  It has a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, and is capable of reaching 60 mph (96 km/hr) in less than three seconds.
