A 54 year-old Viennese doctor was sentenced to seven months conditional imprisonment in the Criminal Court on Thursday for stalking his ex-girlfriend and their daughters.

After his girlfriend left him, the man continued to stalk and contact her and their daughters over a period of many years, despite their wishes to have nothing more to do with him.

According to the ex-girlfriend, the doctor would come to her apartment on a weekly basis, knock on the door, leave letters in the mailbox, in addition to calling and sending SMSes.

He would also regularly pass their 14-year-old younger daughter outside her school and the U-Bahn station.

In 2009, the man was convicted of stalking, but his behaviour did not change.

"He treated us like his property," his former girlfriend told Judge Julia Matiasch. "There must be an end! This is simply terror."

The accused pleaded not guilty, smiling as he told the judge his ex's claims were untrue.

He said it "was his right" to meet his young daughter often, "because social services deprives me of information. All I know is that she listens to Lady Gaga."

Whenever the 14-year-old sees him, she shouts "Go away" and screams.

"I don't know why, but for years it's the only thing she's said," the doctor told the judge.

On April 7, the doctor tried to hold his daughter in front of her apartment building.

His daughter told the judge he even tried to choke her.

"I fell to the ground," she said, telling the judge at the end of her questioning she only had one wish: "I simply don't want to see him."

The man refused to accept the verdict and asked his 14 year-old daughter if she would "stay a while in the room" as he "had not seen her so close for such a long time."

The verdict is not final.
