So, you've overspent your budget during the year and decided to eschew a holiday in Ibiza or the French Riviera for summer at home in Vienna. Or perhaps you're visiting the city for the weekend and want to avoid the usual crowds of tourists? Check out our list of eight things to do on a budget in Vienna this summer.

Many Viennese head to the lakes in the summer, or opt for a holiday in Croatia or Italy, closing up their shops and businesses until the end of August. 

The capital can seem a little empty, but it means you have more of this beautiful city to yourself - from swimming in the Old Danube to exploring bars and cafes in the centre of the city, to enjoying the view from one of the first Ferris wheels ever built.
