The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution has begun an investigation into a demonstration against Israel's military operation in Gaza last Saturday in Innsbruck.

Among others, a woman with an Austrian and Israeli flag standing to the side of the rally was attacked and injured by participants.

The investigation is not only against the individuals responsible for the attacks, but also against the organizers, stated a report in the Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper.

Stewards were in attendance to secure the rally, but anti-Semitic banners and slogans were still permitted.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution was warned of the possibility of overt anti-Semitism in advance of the demonstration on July 13th.

The private organisers are in close contact with the Union of European Turkish Democrats (UETD), which had invited the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his controversial visit to Vienna at the end of June.

Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of Germany, France and Italy have condemned the rise in anti-Semitic protests and violence in their countries over the conflict in Gaza, saying they will do everything possible to combat it.
