Each year in the Carinthian town of Pörtschach in Austria, the world's best body painters come from near and far, to cover young women - and men - in paint, and very little else. The Local brings you a selection of the best pictures.

Since 1998, the sleepy town of Pörtschach, next to the picturesque Lake Wörther in southern Austria, has been the venue for some of the most creative body art this side of Burning Man. The 2014 championship is winding up this weekend.

This year, artists from more than 47 nations attended, and created some amazing and spectacular pieces of body art.  This year's theme was Pop Art.

Scott Fray and Madelyn Greco receiving first place in the UV Award have made history again with their quadruple category wins over four consecutive years. First place for SFX Make up went to Lorie Hamel from Canada and first place for the qualification round of brush and sponge went to Giusy Campolungo from Italy.

Scott Fray just won his fifth World Award taking out the face-painting category.

The town treats the event as a chance for a festival, with music, DJs, circus, fashion and workshops.  A highlight was the synchronized fireworks with music over the lake.  There's even a special contest at night for body paint with UV light.

We're created a GALLERY OF 2014 WORLD BODY PAINTING CHAMPIONS (mildly NSFW in some countries.)
