Berger, 70, who is currently in a relationship with a man 37 years his junior, went on a "rampage" according to the German tabloid Bild, and had to be taken off the plane by cabin crew.

The crew also had to call paramedics to treat him inside the airport - but Berger refused help and fled and hid in an airport toilet for three hours, Bild reported.

His boyfriend, Florian Wess, came to collect him and confirmed to Bild that there had been an incident but that he didn’t know why Berger had become so excited. Berger is reported to have returned to Cologne with Wess.

Berger is mostly known for starring in Luchino Visconti’s films, and recently he played fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent in the later years of his life in the film Saint Laurent, which premiered in Cannes. The actor has battled alcohol addiction in the past.
