Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz and Justice Minister Wolfgang Brandstaetter have emphasised that Austria supports Albania on its path into the EU.

They were speaking at a joint press conference with Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati in Tirana on Tuesday.

Both Austrian ministries wanted to support Albania's reforms in the justice system. The justice reforms are supposed to help Albania on its way to becoming an official accession candidate.

Albania hopes that it will get its candidate status at the EU summit at the end of this month. Kurz said to the APA that Austrian companies in Albania were "suffering" from the lack of law enforcement.

This was why it was important to support Albania in its reforms, he added. Austria was the third-biggest investor in Albania.

Kurz also said that an improved justice sector would do more than help the economy. Public security in Austria would also profit from a more stable situation in the west Balkan region.
