Ukraine's new president in talks with Austria
The new Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has thanked his Austrian counterpart Heinz Fischer for Austria's support. Fischer and Poroshenko met for private talks in Kiev on Saturday. Fischer was attending Poroshenko's inauguration.
According to Fischer's spokesman Bruno Aigner, Poroshenko said he hoped Austria and Ukraine would continue to cooperate well with each other.
Fischer, who was one of many guests of state at the inauguration, said that it was an "impressive ceremony".
According to Aigner, the Austrian president emphasised that his Ukrainian counterpart had held part of his inauguration speech in Russian. Poroshenko was aiming for a peaceful, stable and united Ukraine, said Fischer.
