A police patrol noticed a strong odour of marijuana pervading one short stretch of Nordbahnstrasse in Leopoldstadt on Saturday morning.

The patrol called in a sniffer dog team, who were able to track the scent to an apartment which they suspected contained a marijuana growing operation.

After effecting entry, police found 64 plants being grown in the apartment of a 28-year-old student, who has been charged with illicit cultivation.

In addition, police found more than 2 kg of narcotics in the apartment.  Police described the grow-room as "very professional."
