A young prisoner has committed suicide in Krems-Stein prison, in Lower Austria, after he claimed he was being sexually abused

Manuel S, from Vienna, was 20 years old. After a fight with his cell mate he had been placed in solitary confinement, without any psychiatric support.

He was in prison for wounding someone with a knife but was then allegedly sexually abused by his older cell mate.

Peter Prechtl of the prison directorate said: "After the brawl the prisoner was taken to hospital". Doctors didn’t find any external injuries. The man’s former cell mate is now being questioned by police.

Krems-Stein was recently in the news after a shocking case of neglect was exposed by the Falter paper.

It is also where Josef Fritzl is being held, who became infamous for imprisoning his daughter for 24 years and abusing her.
