A 46-year-old man has been sentenced by Vienna Criminal Court to nine years in prison for abusing two boys.

In addition the man was banned for life from working in his profession as a child care supervisor.

Allegedly, the man abused the ten-year-old son of his girlfriend from late summer 2012 until March 2013, then in August 2013 he supposedly abused the six-year-old son of a friend.

The man vigorously protested his innocence, but the court decided their verdict based on recorded testimony of the children involved.

The ten-year-old boy said he was abused more than a dozen times while the man was living with the child's mother.

The six-year-old boy, who was abused repeatedly over a period of days in August 2013, was severely damaged psychologically, according to Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Gabriele Woergoetter.

She told the court that the boy was highly emotional, and susceptible to psychological manipulation by the defendant.

The defendant is expected to appeal the verdict, which is not yet final at this time.
