MotoGP ace rides bike up Kitzbühel slopes

Skiers were shocked early Friday morning to spot world champion MotoGP rider Marc Márquez riding a powerful RC213V with spiked tyres heading up the ski slope towards them.

Fortunately for the safety of regular skiers on the slope, this was an authorized stunt carried out by Red Bull, as part of its sports promotion.

The Honda bike normally wouldn't cope with this sort of conditions, so Red Bull arranged for Austrian ice speedway champion Frank Zorn to fit the wheels with 3cm spikes, which made fast work of the snow and ice.

The stunt is intended to promote the upcoming Hahnenkamm ski races, which kick off next weekend.

The MotoGP champion Márquez  is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle road racer and three-time MotoGP world champion.

A similar stunt took place in 2016 with Red Bull driver Max Verstappen taking his Formula 1 car up the slopes.

The Local doesn't recommend other riders making this attempt, as we're quite sure the authorities would come down hard on any unauthorized excursions onto the slopes with anything other than skis, snowboards or toboggans.
