Cobra special forces police stormed an apartment building in Styria at the weekend after a 55-year-old tenant threatened to blow up the building and shoot his elderly landlady.

The 75-year-old owner of the building had cancelled the man's rental agreement and was threatening to evict him as he refused to move and she planned to sell the building.

The man told his neighbour what he planned to do and told her that he had plastic explosives ready, and that he also had a gun which he would use to threaten their landlady with if she tried to evict him.

Alarmed, the 20-year-old neighbour called the police who sent a Cobra team to storm the suspect’s apartment in Murau.

They found a gas pistol, and a combat knife but no explosives. The man, who had been drinking, did not resist arrest and his weapons were confiscated. He confessed to making the threats and has since been released from police custody.
