The charity Tiere als Therapie (Animals as Therapy) is organising its tenth ‘Dogging’ fundraising event in which humans can take part in jogging races with their four legged friends.

Tiere als Therapie said the Vienna event, on September 13th, is to raise awareness of the physical and psychological benefits of having a pet and the positive effects that running can have on your well-being.

Owners can compete in races with their dogs, although the emphasis will be on fun rather than competition. The location is Vienna’s Donauinsel (Höhe Nordbahnbrücke) and is organised in cooperation with Vienna Marketing’s Festival of Animals. The events range from a 2km walk to a 6km run.

An anniversary slalom event will test participants on skill, dog knowledge, teamwork, and speed.

The event name, Dogging, signifies a combination of dog and jogging and should not be confused with the unsavoury British slang term - referring to a practise that sometimes takes place in parks but usually without a dog.
