A 15-year-old Belgian girl who went missing in Tyrol has been found by police at a train station in the German city of Mainz early on Tuesday morning, the Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper reports.

She had been travelling with her mother from Italy back to Belgium and they had stopped off in Bichlbach, in Austria’s Tyrol.

The girl’s mother then abandoned her and the teenager was temporarily placed in a foster home. She then ran away from the foster family, together with her two Jack Russell dogs.

The girl’s mother is reported to have run out of money on Wednesday, so decided to take the train back to Belgium to get more supplies and left her daughter behind.

She promised her daughter she would be back by Sunday.

But when she didn’t return the landlord of the holiday apartment they had rented called the police, and the teenager was placed with a foster family in Schattwald.

She ran away during Sunday night, taking her two dogs with her. German police have now handed her over to a local youth authority.
