Massive cross unveiled in Tyrol

A gigantic 30 metre high and 19 metre wide cross was officially unveiled on Thursday in the Tyrolean lowlands by Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP).

The bizarre monument is located on the summit of the Buchensteinwand in the Pillersee valley, at an altitude of 1,456 metres.

Containing several meeting and meditation rooms and five viewing platforms, the so-called Jakob's Cross lies on the Jakob's Way, a pilgrimage route across Austria.

The cost of the structure was around 1.9 million.
