Austrians favour EU-wide traffic toll
According to a survey which the Linz-based Market Institute conducted for the business magazine "trend" 73 percent of Austrians support a European wide traffic toll. 27 percent would prefer national solutions within the 28 EU member states.
It was not clear yet if Austria should answer to German plans to introduce a traffic toll for foreigners with similar measures. 55 percent said that "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" solution would be a bad idea. On the contrary 26 percent said this would be a good idea, as many regional politicians had argued before. 19 percent were not sure if that was a good idea or not.
56 percent of the sampled population said they would prefer a kilometre-dependent toll if the toll system was to be changed. Only 26 percent favoured lump-sum calculation for tolls like the current windscreen sticker known as "vignette".
