Viennese doctor on trial for medical fraud
Wednesday sees the start of a trial in the Vienna Regional Criminal Court against a Viennese doctor who is accused of defrauding the Vienna Health Insurance fund (WGKK).
The doctor allegedly billed the insurance fund for services he never rendered between 2002 and 2012, to the tune of €246,378.
The general practitioner is expected to plead not guilty.
The accused is supposed to have treated in his practice patients on a drug replacement program.
The prosecution claims there are at least 137 cases listed in the indictment, with patients who were billed for consultations and diagnostic or therapeutic sessions which never took place.
